Itinerary

DAY 1: Lima

Arrival transfer in Lima

Lima, the capital of Peru, sits on the country's arid Pacific coast. Founded in 1535, its colonial centre is well preserved, but today Lima is a bustling metropolis and one of South America’s largest cities. The city is home to the various museums including the Museo Larco that houses a collection of pre-Columbian art and the Museo de la Nación, tracing the history of Peru’s ancient civilizations. Lima is known as the “gastronomical capital of the Americas”, encompassing specialties from ceviche and traditional coastal cooking to refined global fare. It even boasts several of the top restaurants in the world.



DAY 2: Lima

Lima Ceviche Cooking Class & Chorrillos Market

Peru is one of the world´s leading culinary destinations and Lima offers several different Peruvian cuisines. This morning, you will be collected from your hotel for a fascinating and educational journey through a traditional fisherman's market of Chorrillos, where you will be amazed by the huge variety of fish and seafood in the ocean, considered one of the richest in the World. Also visit an exclusive Peruvian restaurant, where you will have the opportunity to prepare your own Pisco Sour and the famous Ceviche.

Half Day Lima City Tour

In the afternoon, enjoy a private city tour, visiting the most attractive and important sites. Beginning at the Main Square where the city was founded by Francisco Pizarro in 1535, continue to The Cathedral and its Religious Art Museum, the Church of Santo Domingo, with the tombs of Santa Rosa and San Martin de Porras. Visit the Convent and Church of San Francisco, the greatest monumental complex of Colonial Art in America and Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Tasting Menu 'Lima Love'

This evening you will be collected from your hotel and taken to the world-famous restaurant, Astrid y Gaston. Gaston Acurio's signature restaurant offers typical Peruvian food with a twist. The first world-renowned chef's food establishment, Astrid & Gaston (named after the chef and his wife) continues to be part of Miraflores' main food scene and identity. Enjoy delicious Peruvian flavours from the Lima Love Tasting Menu. Please note beverages are not included. On conclusion of your meal, you will be transferred back to your hotel.


DAY 3: Lima to Cusco

Transfer from hotel to airport for flight to Cusco. Arrival transfer in Cusco to hotel.

Cusco, set at an altitude of 3,400 metres in the Peruvian Andes, was once the capital of the Inca Empire. It is known for its Spanish colonial architecture and Incan remains. Narrow, cobble-stoned streets lined by Inca walls stretch out from the main plaza in every direction. Many of the colonial buildings were built on top of Incan foundations and the stonework is unparalleled in its precision and beauty.

Cusco - City Tour

You will be collected from your hotel for a private sightseeing tour through Cusco, the heart of the Inca Empire. Visit the fascinating Qorikancha Temple of the Sun, the 12-Angled Rock and the Cathedral, built on the ruins of an Inca Palace. From here head to the archaeological remains located around the city, including the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo (giant rock), the ancient site of Puca Pucara and finally the Water Temple of Tambomachay. On completion of your tour, you will be taken to your hotel. Included in your tour price is the BTG (Tourist Ticket of Cusco) which allows you entrance into 16 attractions around Cusco in ten days.

Evening in Cusco

Tonight dinner will be on your own. Cusco at night is a magic place to stroll; you can find beautiful places hidden down the narrow streets or meet locals and have a Mate de Coca tea to keep yourself acclimated to the altitude.


DAY 4: Cusco

A Bite of Cusco - Cooking Class

This morning, you will be collected from your hotel to visit the local market San Pedro, where you will discover Peruvian cuisine and culture in a different way. The experience begins by opening the senses with chocolate, ají pepper, herbs, spices, and coffee aromas. From there we sort through the texture of different Andean grains such as kiwicha, quinoa, canihua, a large variety of native products from the Andes as well as the base of Peruvian gastronomy, like different corn types, dehydrated potatoes, beans, tomatoes and much more. After the visit to the local market you will head to the kitchen, where you will prepare an appetizer and a main dish. Also try different piscos from varying bodegas or vineyards located along the Peruvian coast. Learn about the history of Pisco and prepare yourself a Pisco Sour or a chilcano.

Dinner at Pachapapa

This evening, you will be collected from your hotel to enjoy a delicious dinner at Pachapapa Restaurant where Rodolfo Rolando cooks regional dishes with ancient customs. Enjoy an a-la-carte menu including the best of the Andean produce, such as potato, lima beans, and choclo (Peruvian corn). Beverages are not included. On completion of your meal, please make your own way to your hotel.

DAY 5: Sacred Valley

This morning you will be collected from your hotel for a full day of exploring the Sacred Valley of the Incas. This fertile river valley was home to many important sites for the Incas, both strategic and religious. The first stop is the village of Pisac, with its famous market. The colonial village of Pisac sits at the base of the spectacular Pisac Ruins – a hilltop Inca citadel and fortress with impressive agricultural terracing. On market days, Pisac comes alive with locals from nearby hillside villages in traditional dress selling local fruit and vegetables as well as handicrafts. There is free time to wander the colourful market stalls before a typical Andean lunch at Wayra Restaurant. Enjoy a traditional Peruvian buffet-style lunch whilst being entertained by a Peruvian Paso Horse show. After lunch, you will be transferred to your hotel located in the Sacred Valley.


DAY 6: Sacred Valley

This morning you will be collected from your hotel to learn all about the cultivation process of the native potato while helping to preserve the biodiversity and biocultural heritage of the community. Visit Potato Park, known as the centre of origin of the potato, nurtured for centuries by the deeply rooted local food systems of the Quechua people. The region is home to eight known native and cultivated species and 2,300 varieties of the 235 species and over 4,000 varieties found in the world. Apart from potatoes, other native Andean crops such as olluco, beans, maize, quinoa, wheat, tarwi, mashua and oca are produced here. Experience the agro-biodiversity of the native potatoes and the conservation work that is done here, first-hand with the local “Guardians of the Potato,” the Papa Arariwa. Then, have a tasty lunch made from the native potatoes and other local products. If time allows a guided tour of Ollantaytambo ruins may be provided before heading to the train station.

Travel from Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley to Aguas Calientes in the comfort of the modern Vistadome train. Take advantage of the train's panoramic windows and glass ceiling to take in the incredible views of the Andes mountain range. Includes hotel transfers.


DAY 7: Machu Picchu 

Machu Picchu Guided Tour

The tour starts with a bus ride from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu. You will be astonished at your first view of Machu Picchu, a stunning display of ancient architecture with incredible surroundings. Enjoy a guided shared tour of the ruins and monuments such as the Main Square, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Solar Clock, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows and the Cemeteries. Return by bus to Aguas Calientes village.

Please be aware that your tour of Machu Picchu does not include an entry permit to Huayna Picchu (the iconic hill behind the Machu Picchu ruins). If you want to climb Huayna Picchu then you need to pre-book your permit with at least 3 months in advance. Please contact your travel specialist if you would like to do this.


DAY 8: Machu Picchu to Cusco

This morning is free to explore Aguas Calientes, or take an optional tour to further explore Machu Picchu.

After exploring Machu Picchu, you will travel from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo in the comfort of the modern Vistadome train. This superior tourist class train features very comfortable semi-reclining seats and large expansive panoramic windows that immerse you in the scenery that surrounds the train. There are 48 seats in each car, with 54 in the Macosas AutoWagon. A varied selection of snacks is on offer during the journey.

Map Cafe Tasting Menu

This evening, you will be collected from your hotel and taken to MAP Café for dinner. The restaurant is renowned for its distinctive modern style and the building resembles a large glass cube and harmonises perfectly with the courtyard of the colonial town house housing the Museum of Pre-Columbian Art. The Tasting Menu is original, and Chef Manuel Cordova incorporates the best Andean ingredients to create a Peruvian Style of haute cuisine. Beverages not included. On completion of your meal, please make your own way to your hotel.



DAY 9: Cusco to Lima

Transfer to the airport for flight to Lima. Arrival transfer in Lima to hotel.

Amaz Restaurant

This evening, you will be collected from your hotel and taken to Chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino´s restaurant named amaZ and enjoy an unforgettable experience where his kitchen will bring surprises like no other to the guests. Exotic and unfamiliar ingredients come together to bring high cuisine to a new level. Learn about the exotic fruits from the Amazon, such as tumbo, camu camu and carambola as the bartender prepares some colourful cocktails (not included). Enjoy an exceptional meal prepared with a variety of products that the Amazon has to offer. On completion of your meal, you will be taken to your hotel.


DAY 10: Lima

Transfer to the airport for your onward flight
